seasonal home maintenance

WINTER

  1. Check your smoke + carbon monoxide detectors (battery + expiration dates)
  2. Service your heating system
  3. Maintain any trees on your property 
  4. Stock up on emergency supplies
  5. Remove excessive snow build up from your roof
  6. Clear all snow away from furnace exhaust
  7. Reverse ceiling fans
  8. Prevent pipes from freezing with insulation 

fall

  1. Service your heating system
  2. Have your chimney cleaned and repairs made
  3. Turn off and flush outdoor faucets 
  4. Clean your gutters to prevent clogging and backup
  5. Test your sump pump
  6. Caulk and seal around doors and windows
  7. Remove screens and store for the winter
  8. Seal any holes in your foundation


spring

  1. Replace HVAC filters
  2. Service your AC units
  3. Inspect the exterior for damage
  4. Touch up exterior paint
  5. Test outdoor faucets
  6. Repair and reseal woodwork
  7. Clean debris from foundation vents and window wells
  8. Search for signs that indicate water intrusion or mold
  9. Look to see if insects or critters have colonized in the attic or basement

summer

  1. Inspect foundation for cracks
  2. Clean out the faucet trap
  3. Clean the dryer vent + exhaust duct
  4.  Inspect outdoor play equipment
  5. Refill cracks on driveway
  6. Clean gutters and downspouts
  7. Inspect interior hoses (washing machine/dishwasher) for cracks or leaks
  8.  Fans should spin counter-clockwise
  9. Watch for new inspect damage + nests
